To be young and simple comes at a price, in a rather shabby manner sometimes. The Landlady by Dostoevsky is a strange little story about a young man and his love for the landlady that we later discover is mentally unstable and falls in love with every young man. Heartbreak. The delicate pearls hold the two strings together for a moment akin to the small portion of love the narrator experiences for just a moment. The tale as a whole is enigmatic to the point of sadness and what else would encapsulate such drama?
