Paisleys gather their name from a small town in Scotland, which was the first re-producer of this intricate design. However, the design was a coveted copy of Kashmiri Shawls that became popular in northern Europe, pre-’47. The almond-shaped symbol (also often made to represent eagles, phoenixes, and the sun) has fascinated both the East and the West for a long time since.
As a pattern, paisleys have been a symbol of the elite, since the design is rather complicated to produce. Furthermore, today, in India, Paisleys are often referred to as ‘amb’ or ‘kaeri’, concerning Mangoes (perhaps the bent shape). Originally the design is a gift of the Indo-Iranian culture, which used the shape of a bent Cypress tree, to symbolize life, eternity, and more crucially, strength but humility. For Theater, therefore, this pattern is a very special addition and surely a pattern that is bound to become an integral part of your collection. The fabric, and seamless construction, all pair well with the incredible colors, for an impeccable fit and look.
